In many foreign schools it is mandatory to do several months of electives in the United States prior to graduation. In cases where US electives are not required, it is still recommended as this can greatly increase an FMG/IMG's chance of attaining a position in the US.

In accordance with the above, one of the main reasons this site exists is to help you better understand what to expect during these electives in the United States. Many people do the rotations in their home country but are still worried that things will be different in the United States. This is indeed the case, but we are here to help you prepare.

However, before we write about the electives, we would like to offer a few words of advice regarding how to set up electives, how to choose your specialty, and other things you need to consider before you reach the united states.
